LB Das resigns from the post of SLA Speaker
Sikkim Legislative Assembly Speaker, Lal Bahadur Das on August 16, resigned from his post. In the process, on August 18, the Governor of Sikkim Ganga Prasad through notification intimated that SLA will be holding its election for the Speaker on August 22.
“The election shall be held in accordance with Rule 7 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Sikkim Legislative Assembly” read the notification.
Das was elected as the legislator from West Pendam constituency also he was the first speaker of Sikkim from the schedule caste community.
Sikkim Legislative Assembly is set to remain open from August 19 to 21, for the purpose of attending Assembly Session related works.
According to highly placed sources in the Government, it is expected that current UDHD Minister Arun Kumar Upreti would be the next speaker of Legislative Furthermore, it is believed that Upreti has also tendered his resignation as the cabinet minister.
