Three separate cases of sexual assault against minors reported in Soreng and Namchi Districts

Case 1: Minor girl sexually assaulted by uncle in Soreng District

On June 6, 2025, at around 8:00 PM, a 14-year-old girl was produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in Soreng District. During her interaction with the committee, the minor revealed that she had been sexually assaulted by her uncle, identified as Santosh Chettri alias Nanda Ram (26), son of Dil Bahadur Chettri, a resident of Bara Samdong.

The victim disclosed that the latest assault took place at the Tiger Statue in R*, and that similar incidents had occurred since she was 12 years old. According to her statement, the accused would call her to various locations every month and subject her to penetrative sexual assault.

Based on the written FIR received atNayabazar Police station, a case has been registered under sections 4 and 8 of the POCSO Act, 2012. Santosh Chettri was arrested and is currently in police custody as the investigation continues.

Case 2: 17-year-old girl found pregnant after assault in Namchi District

In a separate case, on June 7, 2025, a resident of G** in Soreng District reported to police that his daughter, aged 17 years and 6 months, was found to be approximately six months pregnant. Upon inquiry, the minor revealed that she had been sexually assaulted by Basant Biswakarma (28), son of Bishnu Biswakarma of Garbeytar Goke, West Bengal, while she was employed at a restaurant in Jorethang between September and November 2024.

The victim stated that the accused, with whom she was cohabiting in Jorethang, physically and sexually assaulted her during this period. Following the complaint, Jorethang Police registered FIR No. 16/2025 under sections 5J(ii), 5(L), and 6 of the POCSO Act, 2012, read with section 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Basant Biswakarma was arrested and remains in police custody. The minor has been medically examined and handed over to her legal guardian.

Case 3: Minor Girl assaulted by acquaintance in Kaluk, Soreng District

A third case emerged on June 7, 2025, when the CWC, Soreng District, reported that a minor girl had disclosed being sexually assaulted on June 3, 2025, by a man she referred to as her brother. The accused, identified as MD. Aris (20), son of Sadrul Ali from Madhepura, Bihar, and currently residing in Kaluk Bazar, allegedly took the victim to his rented room and committed penetrative sexual assault.

The minor did not initially report the incident due to fear and the trust she had placed in the accused. Upon receiving the FIR, police registered Case No. 03/2025 under sections 3 and 4(2) of the POCSO Act, 2012. MD. Aris was arrested and is under police custody, investigation underway
