Gangtok, August 4: Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang today chaired a high-level coordination meeting at Samman Bhawan to review preparations for the upcoming 2nd Aama Samman Diwas, which will be observed on the occasion of the 9th Jan Unmukti Diwas.
The meeting resolved to organise the Government’s flagship programme on a grand scale at Rangpo Playground as a tribute to the mothers of Sikkim in recognition of their lifelong sacrifices, resilience, and invaluable contributions to their families and society.
A major highlight of the meeting was the announcement of two new awards under the Aama Samman Diwas. The Aama Samman Puraskar has been introduced to honour one deserving Aama from each Assembly constituency with a cash award of ₹51,000. The recipients will be selected from among mothers who are not beneficiaries of the Aama Yojana.
The Government has also instituted the Pragatisheel Aama Puraskar to recognise three outstanding Aamas who have made exemplary and productive use of the financial assistance received under the Aama Yojana. The award carries cash prizes of ₹5 lakh, ₹3 lakh, and ₹2 lakh for the first, second, and third recipients respectively.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed all Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, Political Secretaries, Additional Political Secretaries, the Press Secretary, Legal Consultant, OSDs, the SKM Youth Wing President, and CLCs to work in close coordination to ensure the successful conduct of the programme.
He further emphasised that the selection of beneficiaries and award recipients must be undertaken with the highest standards of fairness, transparency, and impartiality.
The Chief Minister stressed that the Aama Samman initiative is a sincere expression of the Government’s gratitude and respect for the mothers of Sikkim, whose love, sacrifice, and dedication continue to strengthen families and contribute to the overall progress of the State.
