Sikkim students in Ukraine: Final student lands at Greenfield airport

The final Medical student from Sikkim who was stranded amid this war inflicted situation in Ukraine was safely evacuated from the international border of Hungary and was brought back to India by Air India flight which landed at IGI International Airport, New Delhi on Sunday where he was received by the Officials of the Home Department and accommodated at Sikkim House, New Delhi. Rajat Gupta, S/o Ramjanam Gupta who hails from Nayabazaar, South Sikkim was pursuing his 4th year (2nd Semester) from Kviv Medical University, Ukraine. He landed at Pakyong Airport by SpiceJet (SG-5737) from New Delhi at 13:30 HRS and was accorded warm reception by Shri. Thendup Lepcha – Sub-Divisional Magistrate/Officer, Pakyong along with Narayan Pradhan, Assistant Protocol Officer (Home), Prabha Pradhan – State Nari Morcha Convener and parents of the student.

In his address to the media, Rajat Gupta expressed his heartfelt gratitude towards Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) Chief Minister of Sikkim and his team of Officials from the Chief Ministers Office including the Officials from Sikkim House, New Delhi who were in constant coordination with the central Ministries and Indian Embassies situated in the international bordering cities in ensuring that students return to their homeland safe and sound. He once again reiterated saying that the safe evacuation of students from Ukraine has been possible with the persistent efforts of the State Government in liaison with the Central Ministries. Also; the financial assistance extended towards each and every students amid this hour of crisis by the State Government has been sincerely appreciated by the parents/guardians of the students.

With this, all the 26 students from Sikkim who were stranded in different cities of Ukraine have safely reached their respective hometown in Sikkim.
