AŘO FRANÇAIS
Surrounded by the hills of Gangtok, the newly opened Ařo Français brings a touch of French food culture to the Himalayas. Owner Tenzing Dasil Bhutia aims to capture the charm, warmth, and essence of France through a thoughtful and curated menu.
Among its various French classics, the Beef Bourguignon is a must-try, followed by a refreshing Niçoise salad to cleanse the palate, as is traditionally done.

TASTE OF TIBET
About two decades ago, Kunga Dondul Bhutia took over the running of the restaurant from his mother. It was originally started as a tiny eatery named “Tashi Restaurant” and has since moved to its renowned location on MG Marg.
To this day, the restaurant remains one of Gangtok’s most iconic eateries, serving both local and Tibetan cuisine.
As rain often hangs in the air over Gangtok, Taste of Tibet becomes the perfect spot to warm up with a hearty bowl of thukpa or a basket of steaming momos, accompanied by the restaurant’s signature spicy pickled radish.
A local favourite that now welcomes more guests in its new two-storey, 108-seater space, opened in June 2025, the restaurant continues to be a favourite among both locals and tourists visiting Sikkim.

S’YUOCHA-CHA
While your friend spills the hottest tea, you sip on a warm cup of butterfly pea flower tea.
This cosy teahouse, owned by Shaswat and Vedant, welcomes you with warm wooden interiors and beautiful views of MG Marg. In addition to serving various types of tea, S’Yuocha-Cha also specialises in authentic Japanese cuisine.
My personal favourites would definitely be their prawn tempura, futomaki, and ramen noodles.
Whenever you feel like detaching from the world, want to enjoy some personal space, or simply spend time with the people you love, S’Yuocha-Cha Tea House is the perfect place to be—whether you are a tea enthusiast or simply looking for a delicious meal.
TAIKA (ASIAN GRILL HOUSE)
As Gangtok’s fascination with Japanese culture continues to grow, Taika, by Mac Dhungel and Choden, draws inspiration from Japanese traditions, bringing a touch of Japan to the town.
The space is designed as a reinterpretation of contemporary Japanese restaurants, featuring Shoji-style screens, rich wooden interiors, and bright red tones.
The menu features several authentic Japanese and Korean dishes. From spicy crunch to creamy rolls, its sushi is crafted with precision and passion. Pair it with a bottle of soju for the complete experience.

BARN & SOY
If you are someone who loves Korean barbecue, this one is for you.
As Gangtok’s evenings grow cooler and the night calls for something comforting and rich, the sound of meat sizzling on a grill is hard to resist.
Barn & Soy, by Nikhil Anark, brings to life the Korean barbecue experience you may have seen in K-dramas. Beyond its signature Korean barbecue, it also offers beloved Korean classics, from dakbal to kimchi jjigae, and much more.
More than just a restaurant, Barn & Soy regularly hosts various events. Recently, these have included FIFA live screenings, Neon Rave Barn, and 2000s house parties.
