Namchi, July 27 : As per the direction of the Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, the District Collector-cum-Chairperson, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Namchi Anupa Tamling attended the Ex-Gratia Relief Distribution Programme organised by the District Administration, Jalpaiguri, to hand over ex-gratia assistance to the families of the victims who lost their lives in the tunnel incident at Samardung under Namchi District.

The Chief Minister had directed that the ex-gratia assistance be disbursed to the bereaved families in their respective home States, enabling them to receive the relief closer to their place of residence rather than travelling to Sikkim.

During the programme, ex-gratia relief amounting to ₹4,00,000 (Rupees Four Lakh) from the Government of Sikkim was distributed to the next of kin and nominees of each of the 11 victims from Jalpaiguri District.

The ex-gratia assistance was provided to extend immediate financial support to the bereaved families affected by the tragic tunnel incident.

The programme was also attended by MLA 21-Nagrakata Assembly Constituency Puna Bhengra, MLA 20-Mal Assembly Constituency Sukra Oraon, Additional District Magistrate (Land & Land Reforms) Jalpaiguri Dr Haaris Rashid IAS, Sub-Divisional Officer Mal Utkarsh Khandal IAS, Additional District Collector (Headquarters)Namchi Subash Ghimirey, District Project Officer DDMA Namchi Suraj Rai alongwith representatives of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Jalpaiguri and other officials of the District Administrations of Namchi and Jalpaiguri
