Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang hosted a State level farewell dinner for the outgoing Governor of Sikkim, Ganga Prasad, at Samman Bhawan on February 13.
Chief Minister and his spouse Krishna Rai, Chief Justice, Justices from High Court of Sikkim, Speaker, Dy. Speaker, Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, MP Lok Sabha, Advisors, Chairpersons, Pol Secy to CM, Chief Secretary, DGP, ACS, APC, CCS, Secretary Raj Bhawan, Secretaries CMO, Secretary Home Department, Special DGP, esteemed dignitaries, officials were present at the function.
Chief Secretary V B Pathak welcomed all the dignitaries assembled for the farewell programme of the outgoing Governor of Sikkim, Ganga Prasad, whose tenure has now come to a successful maturation.
He recalled Ganga Prasad’s remarkable term as the Governor and said that his contribution to the State has been noteworthy. The Chief secretary briefed the gathering about several novel initiatives undertaken for the welfare of the people of Sikkim during the Governor’s tenure.
He informed that Ganga Prasad has visited remote panchayat units of the State and has been a pioneer in adopting and facilitating their conversion into modern villages with all required amenities. In the field of education, smart classes were introduced, he added.
Similarly, the Chief Secretary also highlighted that Ganga Prasad had provided financial assistance for school restorations and helped to set up libraries at different schools, including the upgradation of school auditoriums and financial assistance to old age homes and various NGOs.
VB Pathak also applauded Ganga Prasad’s earnest effort to initiate saffron cultivation in the State, which aims to make Sikkim a hub for saffron cultivation in the country.
Likewise, the Chief Secretary said that the installation of Subash Chandra Bose and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel statues at Raj Bhawan premises resulted from the outgoing Governor’s determined effort.
He further expressed that Ganga Prasad also opened Raj Bhawan for the general public from 1st January 2022 to augment tourism in Sikkim.
Lastly, he said that Ganga Prasad has discharged his constitutional duties and encouraged healthy democratic tradition during his remarkable tenure as the Governor of Sikkim.
The Chief Minister and the dignitaries presented Ganga Prasad with souvenirs and khadas to mark their respect. The programme ended with a state banquet to honour the outgoing Governor of Sikkim, Ganga Prasad.

CM PS Tamang shared a heartfelt message on the former governor’s farewell through his official facebook page “Shri Ganga Prasad Ji has been a great source of guidance for our government, and his words of wisdom have assisted us on many occasions. His concern for the welfare of the Sikkimese people and the development of our state will always be cherished, and on behalf of the people of Sikkim and the government, I thank him for his service to our state, and I hope he will continue to impact society with great enthusiasm.
Personally, Shri Ganga Prasad Ji has been a father figure, and I hold him in the highest regard. As we bid farewell to him, I wish him a life filled with happiness, prosperity, and good health, and may almighty continue to shower him with his choicest blessings.”
