Hamro party founded on November 25 last year by Ajoy Edwards current president of the party, the party gained popularity quickly and was able to secure majority in the Darjeeling Municipality elections held just after three months of the formation of the party. The party secured 18 seats out of 32 wards in the Municipality which paved the way for the formation of the board.

The party was not able to repeat it’s similar feat in the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) elections held on June this year being the second largest party securing only 8 seats in the 45 seats board. Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha (BGPM) led by Anit Thapa was able to sweep 27 seats in the GTA elections thus forming the board.

Hamro Party however has been in a turmoil recently as it’s Sabhasads and councillors in both the boards have been seen to switch to the Anit Thapa camp jeopardizing it’s majority in the Municipality board.

“I am not afraid” says Ajoy Edwards when asked about it “i will prove my majority” he added.
