Alumni Association Reconstituted at Hee-Yangthang Senior Secondary School; Meeting Focuses on Infrastructure Development Plans


Geyzing, June 14: A special joint meeting of the Alumni Association and School Management Committee (SMC) of Hee-Yangthang Senior Secondary School, West Sikkim, was held successfully yesterday i.e. on Saturday, 13th June 2026 under the chairmanship of Area MLA Sudesh Kumar Subba. The meeting focused on the school’s academic progress, achievements, future plans, and various developmental issues concerning the institution.


The programme commenced with the welcome of guests, lighting of the ceremonial lamp, and a welcome address delivered by SMC President S.M. Hembia. During the event, teachers who played a significant role in helping students achieve outstanding results in the recent board examinations were honoured with traditional khadas in recognition of their dedication and contribution.


School Principal Narayan Basnet presented a comprehensive report highlighting the institution’s academic achievements, ongoing progress, and future educational and infrastructural requirements. He emphasized the need for additional support and resources to further strengthen the quality of education and facilities at the school.


Alumni Association Secretary C.S. Uboro presented a detailed report on the activities of the association. During the meeting, the existing Alumni Committee was formally dissolved and a new executive committee was constituted. The newly elected committee comprises P.B. Limboo as President, Mahesh Bisht as Secretary, and Roshan Bhandari as Treasurer, along with other members. The new committee expressed its commitment to supporting the school’s development and fostering stronger engagement among former students through educational and social initiatives.


A major highlight of the programme was the formal handover of land documents to the school following the successful legal registration of the land in the institution’s name. The handover ceremony took place in the presence of the landowner and representatives of the Alumni Association.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Sudesh Kumar Subba reiterated the State Government’s commitment to the educational and infrastructural development of the school.

He announced that projects including the upgradation of the playground, provision of safe drinking water facilities, construction of an auditorium hall, and repair of the RMSA building would be taken up with government support. He also assured personal assistance towards improving the school’s drinking water facilities.


The programme was attended by Chief Minister’s Press Advisor Birendra Tamling, Additional Political Secretary to the Chief Minister Madhusudan Sharma, Zilla Panchayat Membe Taramit Lepcha, Sub-Divisional Officer C.H. Limboo, officials from various departments, teachers, parents, alumni members, and other distinguished members of society.


The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Vice Principal Hari Chettri. Participants collectively pledged their continued support and cooperation towards ensuring a brighter future and sustained development of Hee-Yangthang Senior Secondary School.
