Agriculture Expo-2021 held at Turuk South Sikkim

Namchi, 9th December(IPR): A day-long Agriculture Expo organised by Turuk Multi Purpose Cooperative Society in collaboration with Self Help Group(SHG) of Turuk Ramabong Gram Panchayat was held at Turuk Secondary School, today.

In presence of Minister of Agriculture, Horticulture and Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Department  Lok Nath Sharma graced the occasion.

Further during the program  Minister  Sharma   inaugurated the Agriculture Expo 2021.

Addressing the gathering, Minister  Sharma applauded the efforts undertaken by Turuk MPCS for providing a platform to self help groups in showcasing and selling their agricultural, pickles and other handmade  products directly from their farms and place of work to consumers. He highlighted that the wide scope of agriculture can attract young people in agricultural fields which will not only allow them to earn their livelihood but also to become self-employed and self-sufficient. The Minister spoke at length about various subsidies under flagship programmes and schemes adopted by the state government to provide a lending hand to progressive farmers in different sectors of farming practice. He also cited a couple of successful pioneering stories in which the Government  assisted the progressive farmers.  He also spoke above various schemes namely that of Mukhya Mantri Pashudham Samridhi Yojana and Mukhya Mantri Matshya Utpadan Yojana and many others.

Sharma also announced that the state government shall provide a vegetable outlet to Turuk MPSC at newly built Kishan Bazaar in Gangtok, a Veterinary dispensary to be built in Lungchok Kamarey GPU for this the locals and officials need to submit an estimation of amenities. Regarding Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY) will be adopted in Sumbuk-Kartikey G.P.U for 2021-2022. Similarly, at Sadam Suntaley G.P.U this scheme will be adopted for the year 2022-23.

Further, he also informed about aquaphonic farming practices and its benefits, this pratice will soon be introduced by the State Government.
Distribution of Turuk Multi purpose co-operative  society limited shares to 10 individuals under economic weaker sections from Cooperation Department South was also handed over by the Chief guest.

During the program, agricultural equipments such as, power tiller, fish tanks and Grinder machines were handed over to various beneficaries under the Melli Constituency by the Chief guest.The programme also saw distribution of various cheques through Development Through Credit Schemes provided by Lead Bank to the
progressive farmers of the constituency.

While, the organising committee also felicitated:

Dhan Bdr Pradhan  (Agriculture)
Mani Kumar Chettri (Horticulture)
Mitra Kumar Rana (Animal Husbandry)
Amba Bahadur Rai (Floriculture)

Additionally, the organising committee also felicitated Dr. Nivedita Pradhan and Prakriti SHG (Beeling) for their outstanding work performance and their contributions to farming community.
