Honouring the memory of Sikkim’s Lt Sangay Lhaden, IAS-1992 batch, a statue has been unveiled by her batchmates in the presence of her family members at Arunachal Pradesh’s Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy on May 1.

Born in May 1, 1965, Lt Sangay Lhaden was an IAS officer of 1992-batch and served across various Indian states before joining the service in Arunachal Pradesh.

She died in an unfortunate helicopter crash on May 8, 2001, while in duty when she was serving as the Secretary in the Government of Arunachal Pradesh.

Honouring her service, the Government of Arunachal Pradesh had named it’s Chimpu’s sports academy in her name as Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy.

Sangay Lhaden Shenga Esprit De Corps Prize was instituted by the IAS Batch of 1992 in her memory, given to the probationary officers at LBSNAA.

“Not of all us can do great things, but we can all do small things with great love.”

“This is to quote the vivacious 1992-batch IAS officer of AGMUT cadre, Late Ms Sangay Lhaden, whose karmabhoomi was Arunachal Pradesh”, expressed Pema Khandu, Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh on the occassion.

“The unveiling of her statue on her birth anniversary on May 1 at the Govt Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy at Chimpu, Itanagar, is a fine tribute to her lively personality”, he said.

“I extend my gratitude to her family members, who travelled from Sikkim, and her fellow batch IAS officers for joining the event”.

“The sports academy will further foster our sporting talents to bring laurels to our State”, he added.
