Labourer dies after drowning at Lower Radhu; locals blame contractor

A 35 year old construction labour had died reportedly after falling in a pit full of water near Lower Rodhu, Dentam in West Sikkim.

The floating body was seen by a local villager today who then reported to police.

The man identified as Dinesh Darjee (35) from Jaigoan in West Bengal.

“ There is an ongoing construction work of a bridge connecting Dentam and Legship. It seems the man fell in the pit full of water and died” said the police sources.

A case of unnatural death has been registered.

The local villagers have alleged that it is the fault of the contractor and the Engineers associated with the project as there were no fencing to stop the movement of the people neither there was the light installed.

“ This a sheer negligence from the contractors side. He cannot take people’s life on granted” said Anish Sharma
