As part of the countdown to International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Aging,” the Department of AYUSH, Government of Sikkim, through the AYUSH Medical Officers of the 10-Bedded AYUSH Hospital, Gangtok, conducted a Yoga and wellness outreach programme at the Sikkim Armed Police Training Headquarters (SAPTHQ), Pangthang.
Key Highlights:
• 130 officers, staff, and jawans participated in a one-hour Yoga session focusing on physical fitness, stress management, resilience, and healthy aging.
• Mass enrollment was conducted for the HABUILD Guinness World Record Attempt, an initiative of the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, aimed at achieving the highest number of online Yoga participants.
• 78 personnel availed consultations in Yoga and Naturopathy, including lifestyle counselling for prevention and management of non-communicable diseases, stress reduction, sleep optimization, diet regulation, and holistic health promotion.
• 60 personnel availed Therapeutic services provided by Medical Officers ( Yoga and Naturopathy) included Acupuncture ( electro, moxibustion), physical manipulation, myofascial fire cupping therapy, therapeutic exercises, individualized Yoga therapy, and naturopathy-based interventions for pain management, musculoskeletal conditions, occupational stress, and lifestyle-related health concerns.
• The programme successfully integrated Yoga session execution, preventive healthcare, lifestyle medicine, and therapeutic services under a single platform, reinforcing the role of AYUSH in promoting healthy aging, operational fitness, and holistic well-being.
The programme reflects the Department of AYUSH’s continued commitment to bringing evidence-informed, non-pharmacological, and holistic healthcare services closer to communities and institutions across the State.
By integrating Yoga, preventive healthcare, lifestyle medicine, and therapeutic interventions under a single platform, the initiative reinforced the role of AYUSH systems in promoting healthy aging, disease prevention, operational fitness, and overall quality of life.
