Gangtok MLA Leads High-Level Review to Address Public Concerns and Accelerate Development in 27-Gangtok.
A high level coordination meeting chaired by MLA-cum-Advisor, UDD and Food & Civil Supplies Departments, Delay Namgyal Barfungpa, was convened at the Conference Hall of the Urban Development Department (UDD), Gangtok,today, in a concerted effort to strengthen public infrastructure and enhance service delivery.
The meeting was attended by Rabi Sharma, Principal Chief Engineer, Urban Development Department; Norbu Dadul, Principal Director, UDD; G.L. Meena, Joint Secretary, UDD; Sanjeev Rai, Principal Chief Engineer, Public Health Engineering Department (PHED); Yeshay D. Bhutia, Superintending Engineer, PHED; Pema Donka, Chief Engineer, Buildings & Housing Department; Rashmi Pradhan, Chief Architect, Buildings & Housing Department; Gayden Chopel, Municipal Commissioner, Gangtok Municipal Corporation, along with public representatives from the 27-Gangtok Constituency and other senior departmental officials.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Sanjeev Gurung, of Gangtok Constituency, who welcomed the participants and outlined the objectives of the meeting. He placed before the house various issues and grievances being faced by residents of the constituency.
These included concerns relating to housing infrastructure, water supply, sanitation, civic services and ongoing developmental works. He expressed confidence that the concerned departments would take necessary steps to address the issues and ensure improved service delivery.
Officials from the Buildings and Housing Department reviewed maintenance requirements, infrastructure upgrades, sanitation facilities and access roads, while outlining plans for repairs and renovation works where necessary.
Recognizing the importance of reliable public utilities, the meeting also undertook a comprehensive review of water supply and sanitation infrastructure. The Public Health Engineering Department apprised the house of ongoing initiatives and proposed interventions aimed at strengthening service delivery and ensuring improved access to essential amenities.
Developmental projects being implemented under the Urban Development Department were reviewed in detail.
Officials discussed progress achieved so far and explored strategies to overcome implementation challenges through enhanced coordination among departments.
Municipal services, including waste management, sanitation, road maintenance and civic upkeep, also came under review.
The Gangtok Municipal Corporation highlighted ongoing efforts to improve urban services and responded to concerns raised by stakeholders regarding local civic issues.
A key feature of the meeting was the emphasis on inter-departmental coordination to ensure that developmental initiatives are implemented efficiently and that public concerns are addressed in a time-bound manner. Departments were encouraged to work in close collaboration and maintain regular monitoring mechanisms for effective execution of projects.
Addressing the meeting, Delay Namgyal Barfungpa reiterated the State Government’s commitment to responsive governance and people centric development.
He stressed that the welfare of residents remains a top priority and directed concerned departments to take proactive measures to resolve identified issues and expedite developmental works.
The meeting concluded with the formulation of actionable recommendations and follow-up mechanisms, reflecting the Government’s continued commitment to improving infrastructure, strengthening public services and ensuring sustainable development across the 27-Gangtok Constituency.
Sanjeev Gurung presented the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude for everyone’s time and effort. He further noted the importance of inter departmental coordination and concluded by expressing optimism towards the continued development of Gangtok Constituency.
