Gangtok, October 14: Sikkim Vigilance Police has given a clean chit to the former Additional Chief Engineer ( ACE) of Rural Management Department ( Zilla), Mr CK Basnet in a case related to disproportionate asset registered against him in 2014.

An appeal along with the final report was filed in the court of the Special Judge, ( PC Act 1988) in Gangtok by Sikkim Vigilance Police for the closure of the case stating that no incriminating materials and evidence was found against Mr Basnet.

Vigilance police had filed a suo motu case against him on October 10, 2014 on the charges of allegedly amassing huge wealth disproportionate to his known source of income during the period 1984 to 2002 while he held different posts as government servant.

“There was no evidence to prove that he amassed assets disproportionate to his known source of income” said a senior official.

The report was also submitted in the matter before the Lokayukta, Sikkim who recommended the closure of the case.

While speaking with Sikkim Chronicle over the phone, Mr Basnet said, ” I had to go through lot of mental health problem during the investigation. My social and professional reputation was put on stake, but I had full faith in the investigation as the case against me was false and a vendetta. Six years of my professional career was in question due to this false case, it affected by promotion and annual character report. Who would now compensate the trauma I went through?”

He retired as incharge Additional Chief Engineer. He is presently posted as Additional Director in Sikkim Vigilance Police Department in superannuation.
