Gangtok, June 13: On 12.06.2026, a programme was held in the chamber of the DGP Sikkim Police Akshay Sachdeva, IPS, where a cheque for Rs 1 crore was handed over to the family members of a deceased Police personnel belonging to 2nd IRBn, Sikkim Police. The programme was attended by DGP Sikkim Police along with the senior formations of the Police Department, CO 2nd IRBn, and the family members of the deceased.
Also present in the meeting were officials from State Bank of India: Teekam Singh Gehlot, General Manager NW-3, Local Head Office, Kolkata; Prashant Kumar Singh, Deputy General Manager (B&O), Siliguri; Alok Kumar Das, Regional Manager, RBO Gangtok; and Furba Tenzing Sherpa, Chief Manager Deposit and VAS, RBO Gangtok.
During the programme, the cheque was formally handed over to the legal heir of the deceased by DGP, Sikkim Police Akshay Sachdeva and GM, SBI Teekam Singh Gehlot in the presence of senior formations of Sikkim Police and other SBI officials. The benefit was extended under the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Police Salary Package executed between Sikkim Police and State Bank of India on 19.08.2025.
The insurance benefit became admissible as the deceased personnel was maintaining his salary account with SBI and was covered under the Personal Accidental Insurance benefit under the MoU. DGP Sikkim Police extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and assured that the Police Department stands with them at this grave hour. He also mentioned that while nothing can make up for the loss of a loved family member, the claim settled for the loss of life will hopefully go some way in managing the financial difficulties that the family may have to overcome.
While commending the excellent initiative taken up by the CO, 2nd IRBn in timely lodging the claim and assisting the legal heir of the deceased, he also expressed his appreciation and gratitude towards State Bank of India for not only coming up with the proposal for the MoU but also for the swift action taken in settlement of the claim and ensuring that the benefits covered under the MoU are extended when called upon. He mentioned that the initiative not only reflects the commitment of the Sikkim Police to ensure the welfare of its police personnel and their families during times of distress but also reassures the trust they have in State Bank of India.
Teekam Singh Gehlot, General Manager, SBI, mentioned that although there is no way to make up for the loss of a family member, State Bank of India is committed to providing financial benefits to the affected family members at this grave hour. He reaffirmed his commitment that State Bank of India would always extend its support whenever called upon. Many other benefits available under the MoU, such as Term Life Insurance, SBI Rishtey-Family Savings Account, Add-On Covers, etc., were also discussed.
Hari Chhetri, Inspector General of Police, Checkpost and Armed Police, ended the programme by extending his gratitude to Akshay Sachdeva, DGP Sikkim Police, for providing his valuable time in attending the programme and to the senior formations of Sikkim Police.
