News from Sikkim: A day for mother earth was observed in Namchi, The Chief Guest for the program was South Zilla Adhyaksha Mrs. Tshering Dem Bhutia, she was accompained by Councillors from Namchi Municipal Council, ADC (South) Mr. Satyan Kr Pradhan, DFO (T) Ms. Peggyla Tshering Venchugapa, DFO (Wl) Ms. Tshering Denka Bhutia, DFO ( Social Forestry) Ms. Marmit Lepcha alongwith Assistant Conservation of Forest and other staff. 

Namchi, 7th July(IPR): Along with the rest of the State ‘A Day for Mother Earth’ was observed in Namchi, today. The Chief Guest for the program was South Zilla Adhyaksha Mrs. Tshering Dem Bhutia, she was accompained by Councillors from Namchi Municipal Council, ADC (South) Mr. Satyan Kr Pradhan, DFO (T) Ms. Peggyla Tshering Venchugapa, DFO (Wl) Ms. Tshering Denka Bhutia, DFO ( Social Forestry) Ms. Marmit Lepcha alongwith Assistant Conservation of Forest and other staff. At the onset of the program a ceremonial plantation was done at the premises of  Ngadak Gumpa followed by official function at Officer’s Club, Namchi. Addressing, the gathering the Chief Guest Mrs. Tshering Dem Bhutia spoke about the importance of this day which is celebrated with much enthusiasm in Sikkim by planting trees, Ornamental plants and other various kinds of shrubs. She added that our world currently is facing adverse climate challenges and to combat this the officials as well as the public has to plant more trees and develop a robust environment friendly plan. Moreover, she added that plantation of tress should be done particularly during the monsoon month as the plants have more chances of surviving. DFO (Environment and Soil Conservation Division, South) Mr. Palzor Ongda Bhutia spoke about the salient features of the program. He urged that saving the environment should commence from the grassroot level, the community and individual should come forward and put forth plans to conserve the environment. He also mentioned one of the unique feature of this program which is dedication of seven minutes in Sikkim which commences from 11.00 to 11.07 am wherein no vehicles will ply on the roads except for emergency vehicles like ambulance, police, fire and other major services. During the course of the program, the department also felicitated various employees who have been instrumental in their work and have aided in tackling Covid-19.
