The third edition of Sikkim Premier League has seen its first round of games conclude, since starting on April 10, 2024 with last season’s finalists Singling SC and Thunderbolt North United FC kicking the season off with a 1-1 draw at Bhaichung Stadium, Namchi and we have been treated to some tasty fixtures and feisty battles on the pitch.

As of today, there have been a total of five games played across the two venues namely Bhaichung Stadium in Namchi and Palzor Stadium in the capital, Gangtok. All participating nine teams have successfully played a game each except for Thunderbolt North United, who have played their second game of the season already against season debutants Black Eagles SC.

So as things stand, Thunderbolt lead the table with 4 points thanks to a draw against Singling SC and a win yesterday against Black Eagles. Followed by Red Panda FC in second, who lead Roaring Leopard FC despite being level on three points each only due to their goal difference. Sikkim Aakraman SC, Sikkim Dragons FC and Singling SC have all put a point each on the board, placing them behind Roaring Leopards but keeping them ahead of Gyalshing United and Black Eagles who failed to score any points in the opening round.

The first five games of the tournament has seen fourteen goals scored by fourteen different goal scorers, with all the games ending narrowly. Of the three teams who went on to win a game, only Red Panda FC scored two more than their opponents Siniolchu FC, while Roaring Leopard FC and Thunderbolt North United just scraped past their respective opponents with narrow 2-1 victories. This speaks to the level of competitiveness all the teams have exhibited in this season, matching their competition like for like.

Now we await to watch how the rest of the season unfolds, how teams tackle adversities on and off the pitch with 34 more games to go until the Champions are crowned.
