Archer Tarundeep conferred with Padmashree award 2020. The Sikkim born archer was born on February 22, 1984 in Namchi South Sikkim.
Rai made his debut in international archery at the age of 19 at the Asian Archery Championship 2003.At the of 21, Rai was felicitated by Arjuna Award in the year 2005 for his Achievements in archery, he was the member of Indian Archery team that bagged bronze medal at the 15th Asian games at Doha in the year 2006.
He also won silver medal in Archery at the 16th Asian games on November 24, 2010 at Guangzhou, China. Tarundeep Rai has been very persistent on performing at big stages of in the past two decades, bagging two World Championship silver medals to his name the convolute team event.
He has also obtained two bronze medals at Asian Archery championship in the year 2005 and 2019.On November 8, 2021, President Ram Nath Kovind Monday presented Padmashree Awards at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, where Taryndeep who is also a soldier in Indian Gorkha Regiment was presented Padmashree award.
Rai was Nominated in the year 2020 for the Padmashree awardees.
The Padmashree award are bestowed in three categories that is, “ Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri”, out of 119 Padma awards , 15 awards are from Northeast India for their excellent contribution in the fields of social work, public affairs, art, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education and sports among others.
