On June 3, the Sadar Police Station received a written FIR from a Bojogari resident, the report stated that Roselene Subba resident of Namchi south Sikkim working as a Junior Engineer was found hanging at her room at forest colony, Baluwakhani, Gangtok, declaring it as unnatural death.
Further on June 17 another FIR was received on the death of Roselena Subba from family members in which the family of the deceased suspected foul play and demanded investigation.
Following to which in course of investigation the police personnel while speaking to family, friends and closed ones of the deceased it was found that a person presently working as an Assistant Engineer under government of Sikkim was in a relationship with the deceased. In the course of investigation, it was revealed that the deceased had made a FaceTime call to the alleged Assistant Engineer before committing suicide.
According to the report of the Sadar Police “upon examining the guardians, family and friends it was revealed that one person. Who at presently is A.E was in a relationship with deceased and the last person who had 50 minutes FaceTime (video call) with him around 1625 hrs. The same day when the deceased had committed suicide by way of hanging”
“Furthermore, upon examining one key witness and close friend of Delhi with whom the deceased had met and stayed at Delhi recently, it was revealed that the deceased had confided in her about the miseries and constant mental harassment she had to undergo because of her boyfriend with whom she had broken up on December 2020 (.) Even then the witness revealed that the deceased had to go through mental harassment on a regular basis” added the report
The statement of one close friend of the deceased was recorded under section 164 CRPC in which she mentioned “at that time deceased person had told her that the alleged person had threatened/blackmailed her and taken a sum of Rs. 15,00,000/- from the deceased. When the deceased refused, the alleged person threatened her by saying that he would expose her intimate pictures and videos” revealed the police record.
The suspect who is an Assistant Engineer has been booked under 306 and 383 IPC for Abutment to suicide and Extortion
Praveen Gurung DIG Range speaking about the case said “the suspect is absconding, as soon as we find him we will take action against him”
