50 medical seats for MBBS reserved for local students at Sikkim Manipal University, The proposal for the same was approved by National Medical Commission, the reserved medical seats for MBBS will be sponsored by Sikkim state government

Addressing the media today Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang said, “National Medical Commission has approved 50 medical seats for free to students who want to persue MBBS at Manipal. Previously students had to pay 16-17 lakhs per year until now. Due to which many students couldn’t enroll themselves into medical institute hence the state government urged medical commission to look after the matter.”

“There were many aspirants who use to come from vulnerable background who had to backout because of the course fee.
50 free seats for students can now study at zero cost and the state government could like to thank the center for it.” He added
Furthermore, he mentioned that, “Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between state government and Manipal University. It will be based completely on merit list.”

Likewise Health Minister, M K Sharma stated that the vision of our government, Chief Minister PS Tamang and an aim of letting students’ study for free has been accomplished.

“Sikkimese students who belong to poor families now can fulfill their dreams of becoming doctors. Likewise nursing council shall also pass certain seats since they have already visited Sikkim for the same.” Added the statement

GP Uppadhya, ACS Education Department detailing about the allocation of the 50 medical seats in the SMU stated, “A total of 150 seats per annum is now being offered in Sikkim Manipal University. Due to covid19 on September this was almost rejected because it was not possible to inspect college, so I went to Delhi with a strategy saying it’s for native Sikkimese Students who are under privileged and not for private seats and finally they send a team in November and yesterday they send a final approval of 50 seats.”
