33rd Board of Governors Meeting of NFICI concludes successfully at Trivandrum

Trivandrum, July 27, 2025: The 33rd Board of Governors Meeting of the National Federation of Information Commissions in India (NFICI) was held from July 25 to 27, 2025, at Trivandrum, Kerala. The meeting was chaired by the Chief Information Commissioner of the Central Information Commission Shri Hiralal Samaria. The meeting was attended by Sikkim Chief Information Commissioner Shri YP Gurung and State Information Commissioner Shri Kuber Bhandari and Chief Information Commissioners from various State Information Commissions an

Key agenda items included:

Confirmation of the minutes of the previous meeting

Publication of the Annual Journal

Approval of amendments in the Memorandum of Association (MoA), Bye-laws, and Rules & Regulations

Review of Memberships statusUtilization Certificates (UCs) and grant release to Member Commissions

A significant focus of the meeting was on strengthening the implementation of the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005. The Chair emphasized the need for:

Strict adherence to Section 4 of the RTI Act, ensuring suo motu disclosure of information by public authorities in a timely and transparent manner.

Regular sensitisation and capacity-building programmes for State Public Information Officers (SPIOs) to enhance their understanding of the RTI framework, timely disposal of requests, and proactive dissemination of information.

Further, the Board reviewed the status of the release of the 4th Grant to Member Commissions and considered proposals for its extension to additional eligible commissions.

The meeting concluded with a reaffirmed commitment to strengthening transparency, accountability, and citizen-centric governance across the country.
