Training of ASHA and Aganwadi Workers on Drug Demand Reduction under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan held at Namchi

Namchi, 14 December (IPR ): A training of Asha & Aganwadi Workers( AWW) on Drug Demand Reduction program under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was held at Conference hall of DAC, Namchi.

The program was organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra in coordination with Social Justice & Welfare Department, Woman & Child Development.

The program was attended by Dr. Bishnu Sharma, Resource persons were Sugam Gurung from Sanjveeni Rehabilitation Centre and Reshma Subba Pyschologist alongwith number of Asha & AWWs.

The main objective of the program is to prevent young children and their exposure to drugs and substance abuse.

During the program Dr. Bishnu Sharma spoke about Sikkim and how the state has been facing major problems due to increase in substance abuse. He mentioned that the main focus on the state action plan will be preventive education,awareness generation which will be held in coordination with other departments like police , Asha & AWW.

He further stated that addiction to drugs creates havoc and disrupts an individuals life and family. It is a major deterrent for any kind of human growth & development & also for socio economic, political stability of the society & state as a a whole.

Miss Reshma Subba Psychologist also informed about the roles and responsibilities of ASHA & AWW. she mentioned that the society needs to be more aware about the problem and then address the problem.

It maybe mentioned that similar programme will be held at Jorethang, Ravangla and Yangang in the coming days.
