The Additional District Collector Dev Office, Pakyong District, in collaboration with the Education Department, launched the “Connect Earth-Sweat Contribution Centre” at Kartok Primary School. The project, guided by the vision of Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), seeks to reconnect people with nature and promote eco-friendly practices.
The initiative was implemented through joint efforts by the Education Department, led by Chief Education Officer Narayan Misra and team members, including Deputy Director Karma Sengha, in collaboration with School Headmistress Macdoline Lepcha; teachers, staff, and students playing significant role in organising the launch event.
As the chief guest and motivator, Additional District Collector (Dev) Pakyong District, Robin Pd Sewa, emphasised the significance of the five components of nature (Panchamahabhuta) and discussed the significance of grounding techniques while urging students to participate in practical exercises.
As part of the launch, the school community set up vegetable gardens and planted a variety of plants throughout the campus. Through these exercises, children will be able to nurture a relationship with nature and engage in environmentally friendly behaviours.
Likewise, Bikash Chettri (Teacher) received an appreciation letter for his efforts in supporting the school kitchen garden. His work is seen as a model for guiding students.
To continue this effort, all schools in Pakyong District will conduct the “Connect Earth-Sweat Contribution” initiative every Saturday. These sessions will involve activities that encourage sustainable habits, environmental care, and community service.
The programme reflects a step toward a future with stronger ties to nature and practices that support long-term well-being. Public are also invited to support and participate in this effort to strengthen the connection between people and the environment.
