The Hamro Sikkim Party (HSP) is deeply distressed by the hooliganism and violence displayed at Gangtok yesterday and strongly condemns such actions by the ruling party, especially against the opposition. This is a continuation of violent attacks on opposition parties which has been going on for the last 30 years and the party condemns it in the strongest terms.
Politics in Sikkim has been slowly deteriorating over the years, and the party in power has been using violence against the opposition for some time now. It is a sad state of affair that the very same people who started this trend, is at the receiving end now. But whatever maybe the case, violence of any type is condemnable and has no place in a democratic system.
Therefore the HSP demands that the perpetrators be apprehended quickly and strong action be taken so that the people of Sikkim may directly benefit from a democratic and lawful governance, without the threat of violence of any kind.
