ENTIRE DISTRICTS OF GANGTOK, MANGAN, PAKYONG, AND TEMI-TARKU AREA FROM NAMCHI DISTRICT TO FACE ELECTRICAL BLACKOUTS FROM APRIL 8 TO 10

Entire Gangtok District except Rangpo, Mangan and Pakyong Districts, and Temi-Tarku area of Namchi District is set face electricity outage and remain in blackout for three days during 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM on the 8th, 9th & 10th of April.

Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (PCGIL), which is a centre government enterprise, is implementing, a time-bound infrastructure development scheme named Comprehensive Scheme for Strengthening Transmission and Distribution System in Sikkim, under which there will be a construction of a new transmission line by PCGIL.

Under the project the 220kV Samardong to Dikchupool transmission line will be constructed at Namgeythang Village, Gangtok District, and a 132KV GIS Bay at Rangpo Substation is being urgently commissioned, for which the double-circuit 132kV Rangpo-Gangtok transmission line is being shut down. This, per the notification by PCGIL is to allow the stringing works of the new 220KV transmission line.

The affected areas will be entire Gangtok District except Rangpo, entire Mangan and Pakyong District, and Temi-Tarku area of Namchi District.
“During the shutdown period, there will be no power available in the affected areas,” the PCGIL notification read.
“Hence, all the affected consumers are requested to bear with the inconvenience caused,” the notification concluded.
