After Lall Bhadhur Das tendered his resignation from the post of Speaker SLA on August 16 Arun Upreti former UDD minister files his nomination today at Sikkim Legislative secretariat.
Arun Upreti was elected as legislator from Arithang constituency in the 2019 general election following to which he was nominated as UDD minister and after severing as minister for 3 years he resigned from the post.
“Due to internal party arrangements I decided to tender my resignation” said Arun Upreti defending his resignation
Upreti was accompanied by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang along with SKM legislators and few BJP legislators during the filing of nomination at SLA secretariat.
On the party level legislator Upreti also holds the post of Secretary General SKM party. Upon asking him on the party activists he said,” I have been loyal to the party, whatever post the party gives I think I can uphold it and with regard to the nomination filed by me for the SLA post I think there will be no such difficulties to manage both the post”
“When I will walk in the legislative assembly I have to see all the members as same while I leave the office I am an elected legislator and I have to work for my people” he added
The SKM Government reshuffle has been seen from the lens of speculations as a big political happening by many in the state.
Amongst the speculations the most highlighted speculation is that whether BJP has played their card in this particular reshuffle or not?

and SKM party president denied all the speculations and claimed the reshuffle to be internal arrangements within the party” This arrangement is only within the party. BJP has no any connection regarding the reshuffle”
“To give chance to LB Das in the cabinet we as a party have decided for the reshuffle.” He added
On asking CM Tamang about Arun Upreti filing his nomination he said,” Arun Uprti has been very loyal to the party. It’s a promotion for him and the decision was taken by the party”
On asking CM Tamang on any other future reshuffle in the cabinet he said,” There are no talks on any other reshuffle at the moment. If anything as such comes in future that will be done with discussion in the party”
CM Prem Singh Tamang also informed that UDD Minister will be nominated on August 25 until then Urban Development Department and Food and Civil supplies department will be held by him.
The election for the new speaker will be held at SLA secretariat on August 22 and the swearing in ceremony will be held on August 25. As per records so far only Arun Upreti has filed his nomination for the post of Speaker.
