Case of Sexual assault at West Sikkim: Accused identified as survivor’s brother-in-law

In West District of Sikkim on July 03, one 22 years old lady was sexually assaulted by her brother-in-law, following to which  on July 12, the survivor lodged an oral report at the nearest police station.

After which the local police arrested the accused, then he  was taken into custody after observing all the legal formalities including his medical examination.

According to the report of the local police,“Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused person used to reside nearby victim’s house.  On the relevant day and time while victim was crossing from the house of accused person and nobody was present nearby he had sexually assaulted her. As per the victim, accused person had used one cushion to gag the victim thereby preventing her from making any hue & cry.
 
“Since the accused person was her brother-in-law, the victim did not lodge any complaint initially. However, when she narrated her ordeal to other ladies of the locality, they brought her to the PS for lodging the FIR.” added the statement
