The 34th edition of the Sikkim State Badminton Championship – 2025 concluded today with a grand closing ceremony at the Indoor Badminton Hall, Paljor Stadium Complex, Gangtok.
Organised by the Badminton Association of Sikkim (BAS) under the aegis of Badminton Association of India, the five-day tournament showcased the finest talent from across the state, reaffirming badminton’s growing stature in Sikkim’s sporting landscape.
The closing ceremony was graced by MLA of Soreng-Chakung Constituency, Mr Aditya Golay, as the Chief Guest. Also in attendance were Political Secretary to Hon’ble Chief Minister and President of BAS Mr Jacob Khaling, Secretary of Sports and Youth Affairs Department Ms Yangchen D Tamang, SDM Gangtok Mr Mahendra Chettri, senior members of BAS, representatives of various sports associations, and distinguished members of the local gentry.
The programme began with a welcome address by BAS Vice President, Mr Thendup Tseten Bhutia, followed by a cultural performance that celebrated Sikkim’s vibrant traditions. The final matches were then played before an enthusiastic audience, who cheered on as athletes displayed remarkable skill and determination.
In his address, Chief Guest Mr Aditya Golay extended his best wishes to all participants, stating that every finalist is already a winner by virtue of their dedication and hard work. He reflected on the progress made since 2019, highlighting that Sikkim’s sporting fields have grown tremendously, enabling athletes to secure representation at both national and international platforms. He assured that the Government remains committed to extending all possible support to nurture young talent, noting that the Chief Minister has been steadfast in uplifting sports and creating new opportunities for youth.
The Chief Guest also commended the initiatives of the Badminton Association of Sikkim under the leadership of President Mr Jacob Khaling, observing that the Association has successfully adopted a state-centric approach that ensures grassroots inclusivity and participation from every corner of Sikkim. Concluding his address, he conveyed his warmest wishes for the bright future of the state’s players and the sporting fraternity.
The prize distribution ceremony followed, with medals, cash incentives, and certificates presented to winners across categories.

Promising Player Awards
A special highlight of the evening was the Promising Player Awards, sponsored by Mr Meraj Pradhan in memory of his late parents. Five young shuttlers were honoured for their potential and dedication:

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by BAS General Secretary and Executive Member of the Badminton Association of India, Mr Sukanta Das.
