A violent clash between supporters of the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) and the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) has been reported in Kaluk, located in the Soreng district.

According to police sources, “The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Kaluk Police station, where SDF party members have filed an FIR. The investigation is currently in progress.”

The SDF party issued a statement regarding the incident: “Today, SDF members who were participating in the ‘SDF Party’s Sikkim Save Campaign’ were brutally attacked by SKM workers in the Rinchenpong constituency at Middle Takuthang, West Sikkim. The assault resulted in serious injuries to SDF Party’s young leaders Mr. Prahlad Rai, Mr. Sukraj Subba, Mr. Dhanbahadur Tamang, Mr. I B Rai, Mr. Siddhant Subba, and Mr. Furdhen Bhutia. They are receiving medical treatment at Namchi District Hospital.”

Similarly,  ruling SKM party has accused the SDF of instigating violence by bringing in hired individuals from outside the state. The SKM’s press release stated: “Today, Mr. Robin Tamang, an active SDF worker, led hired individuals from outside Sikkim to attack SKM workers in Katarbotay, Reshi, within the Rinchenpong constituency. Approximately 20 individuals were brought into the Soreng district with the intent to cause violence and disruption. An Alto vehicle with the registration number WB74M0243, owned by Mr. Anand Pradhan from Siliguri, was found with these individuals, along with sharp weapons such as khukuris and iron rods. The SKM workers, who were attacked by these individuals, are in the process of filing an FIR against the SDF party and their hired individuals.”
