Vigilance conducts raids at Retd Officers’ and Engineers’ houses; incriminating documents seized

Sikkim Vigilance department registered FIR against retired Principal Engineers cum Secretaries of Power Department, along with Managing Director and Director of Sikkim Power Development Corporation Limited (SPDCL) and a Delhi based company M/s Amalgamated Transpower (India) Limited.

The vigilance department registered FIR on grounds of allegations that alleged the government officials while in office ‘dishonestly abused their official position and conspired with M/s Amalgamated Transpower (India) Limited during development of three Hydel Schemes viz Rolep HEP, Ralong HEP and Chakhangchu HEP during 1998 onwards and caused huge undue monetary loss to the Government exchequer.’

As per credible sources from the the department, “The said retired public servants purposefully did not protect the financial and developmental interests of the Government, which they were duty bound to, and caused undue benefit to M/s Amalgamated Transpower (India) Limited and themselves.”

Following to the course of the event, Sikkim Vigilance Department conducted search in various houses of the retired officers including retired secretaries of Power Department and Managing Director, Director of Sikkim Power Development Corporation Limited (SPDCL) in Sikkim and the house and office of a private party Sikkim along with places in Delhi on November 8.

“During searches, several incriminating documents were seized. Some of the retired Power Secretaries and MD of SPDCL are being interrogated in the Vigilance office in Gangtok. Search is still continuing.” Informed sources.
