In recent days multiple cases of money scam is being reported from the capital city of Sikkim, Gangtok.

The man reportedly shares cooked-up stories of some kind of emergency and asks people to provide him cash in return of transferring the money into lenders account via gpay or other popular UPI services for which he shares the screenshot too and assures of the money being transferred. However, neither the money gets transferred nor he answers the calls or messages after the encounter.

One of the victim reached out to Sikkim Chronicle where she was scammed at SBI ATM of MG Marg at Gangtok, allegedly by Stephen Gurung on the evening of December 24, 2023.

“This incident happened inside SBI ATM MG marg at evening of 24th December 2023”, writes the victim.

“The person who is doing this scam is Stephen Gurung also goes by Shiva Gurung he makes a story of some emergency and ask for cash in return of transferring the money to account via gpay or other upi services he also shows the transaction screenshot and assures that money will be deposited in your account and also gives his phone number but doesn’t pickup the calls or reply to any messages”.

“We also went to report the case to Sadar police station and we came across similar cases against him and since the money he takes aren’t in huge sum so the case can’t be too strong”, she wrote.

“So I request the media outlets to warn people so that the similar scam won’t repeat as it happened to us”, she added.

Further, Sikkim police sources, have confirmed multiple cases and instances of said money scam in the city, “The matter is being enquired upon”

*Sikkim Chronicle advises people to stay alert at all the times and not fall for such scams.
