A district-level training programme on Land Use Statistics (LUS) and the Digital General Crop Estimation Survey (DGCES) was organised by the Agri. Census Unit, Agriculture Department, Pakyong District, at the RURBAN Community Complex, RDD, Pakyong.
The DGCES application enables states to collect real-time Crop Cutting Experiment (CCE) data directly through a mobile app, while also facilitating yield estimation via a web portal. With features such as GPS-enabled photo capture and automated plot selection, the system ensures greater accuracy and transparency while reducing manual interventions.
During the programme, Deputy Director, Agriculture Department, Ms Rebecca Gurung, underlined the significance of the application in modernising crop estimation processes. She encouraged participants to make full use of the training to clarify their doubts. She further explained the importance of correctly identifying and recording survey numbers, determining the highest survey number in a village, and keeping the app updated to access new features.
The technical session was conducted by Mr Gagan Gurung, Agriculture Development Officer (ADO), Pakyong, who delivered a detailed presentation on the key components of DGCES implementation. He briefed participants on the related issues and solutions concerning DGCES under Pakyong District. He also explained the correct process of data entry, the importance of recording survey numbers accurately, and clarified that three forms are required to be filled during each crop cutting experiment.
Furthermore, he stressed the need to record dry weight data of different crops precisely for reliable yield estimation and highlighted the importance of capturing and uploading proper field and harvest photographs at each stage of the survey to ensure transparency and proper documentation.
Assistant Director, Agriculture Department Dr Sangay Gyampo Bhutia, spoke on the scrutiny of Agri. Census Phase III. He engaged with participants on common errors and explained the methods of correction.
Krishi Sevak, Agri. Census Unit, Agriculture Department, Mr Dewas Luitel, assisted the field staff during the session. He briefed them on the latest updates in DGCES, clarified the new requirements for form-filling, and responded to queries from the participants.
