Tourism activities have resumed in Lachen and Gurudongmar Lake, two of North Sikkim’s most popular tourist destinations, after remaining closed since June 2025.

Confirming the development, Mangan District Collector Anant Jain informed Sikkim Chronicle that tourists are now permitted to visit the destinations.

He further stated that, for the time being, permits are being issued only for small tourist vehicles as a precautionary measure.

According to data provided by the police checkpost division, around 200 tourists arrived in 54 vehicles on the first day of reopening, signalling the revival of tourism in the region.

Lachen and Gurudongmar Lake are among the most sought-after tourist attractions in North Sikkim, drawing visitors from across the country for their breathtaking Himalayan landscapes and unique high-altitude environment. Authorities have advised tourists and tour operators to strictly adhere to guidelines issued by the district administration while planning their visits.
