The Education Department, Government of Sikkim, has declared the Chief Minister’s Merit Scholarship (CMMS) Selection List 2026 for Class VI admission, prepared strictly on the basis of merit.

In an outstanding display of academic excellence, three students from different districts secured Joint Rank 1 in the selection test.

The joint toppers are Rajiv Gurung of Lungzik Junior High School, Gyalshing district, son of Shri Laxuman Gurung and Late Smt. Draupadi Sharma; Sangay Palmu Lepcha of Mamring Junior High School, Namchi district, daughter of Shri Pem Tshering Lepcha and Smt. Pem Choden Lepcha; and Benisha Gurung of Pureytar Junior High School, Soreng district, daughter of Shri Sangam Gurung and Smt. Archana Rai.

Out of 380 students who appeared for the examination, 80 students qualified. As per the placement policy, the top five boys will be admitted to Tashi Namgyal Academy (TNA), while the top ten girls will be placed at Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya, Gwalior. The remaining 65 students will continue their education at the Chief Minister Model School (CMMS), Assam Lingzey.

The Chief Minister’s Merit Scholarship Scheme (CMMS) is a flagship initiative of the Government of Sikkim, aimed at identifying and nurturing academically meritorious students from government schools at an early stage. The scheme provides quality residential education, academic mentoring, and holistic development opportunities, ensuring equitable access to high-standard education irrespective of socio-economic background.

It was informed that all competing local students had pursued their education continuously from Class I to Class V in government schools, highlighting the growing academic standards of the State’s public education system.

These students get scholarship upto graduation level.

Officials from the Education Department congratulated the successful candidates and acknowledged the support and guidance of parents and teachers in shaping the students’ achievements.
