SSDMA, LR&DMD and DDMA (Soreng) conduct joint field visit to landslide-affected areas under Daramdin Constituency

 In light of the recent monsoon-induced landslides across the Daramdin Constituency, a comprehensive field assessment was undertaken today by the Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority (SSDMA), in coordination with the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Soreng, and the Land Revenue & Disaster Management Department (LR&DMD), Soreng.

The assessment team was led by Special Secretary-cum-Director (SSDMA) Mr Prabhakar Rai, accompanied by Additional Director (SSDMA) Mr Rajiv Roka. The purpose of the visit was to evaluate the extent of damage, identify critical intervention points, and initiate necessary restorative measures.

Sites Visited on Day One of the Two-Day Visit:

1. Box Cutting Dara (Daramdin):  

Site observed for significant landslide activity affecting road connectivity and posing risks to public safety.

2. Lungyam Lower Dara and Salangdang School:  

Assessment conducted on structural damage to educational infrastructure. NTPC representatives present on-site confirmed their willingness to support restoration efforts through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Road disruptions were noted and restoration measures are being planned.

3. Siktam (Lower & Upper):  

Damage included obstructed roadways and displaced families. Site analysis involved discussions on preventative strategies against further slope failure.

4. Lower Tikpur and Surrounding Areas:  

Damage to road infrastructure was recorded and potential remediation strategies were deliberated with executing agencies.

The visit emphasised the urgency of response mechanisms and the importance of disaster preparedness in the region. Further, constructive recommendations were noted by the visiting team for the restoration process. 

Present during the visit were Special Secretary-cum-Director (SSDMA) Mr Prabhakar Rai, Additional Director (SSDMA) Mr Rajiv Roka, ADC (I) Mr DR Bista, SDM (HQ) Mr Prem K Subba, DPO (DDMA) Mrs Rajni Pega, BDO (Daramdin) Mr Ongdi Sherpa, AE (BAC, Daramdin) Mr Samir Sharma, HR (SSDMA) Mr Kunsang Namgyal, Officials from Power and Irrigation Department, team of LR&DMD, DDMA, Panchayats of their respective blocks and the public and stakeholders of the constituency.
