The stage is set for the grand finale of the Sikkim@50 Inter-school Quiz Competition, which will take place tomorrow on July 10, 2025 at Chintan Bhawan Gangtok.
Organised by the Department of Information and Public Relations, Government of Sikkim, the quiz competition is a flagship initiative under the golden jubilee celebrations of Sikkim’s statehood, the first of its kind – A Journey through the History of Sikkim.
This year’s competition witnessed a record-breaking participation of 112 senior secondary schools from across the state, with a total of 224 students taking part in the online preliminary round.
Notably, while 12 private schools and three Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) were also in the fray, the majority of participating institutions were government senior secondary schools, a remarkable reflection of the State’s strong public education network and growing student engagement at the grassroots level.
Following the highly competitive prelims, six schools, one from each district, have advanced to the final round. These finalists are:
1. Samdong Senior Secondary School (Gangtok District)
2. Eklavya Model Residential School, Parakha (Pakyong District)
3. Bongten Senior Secondary School (Gyalshing District)
4. Bermiok Tokal Senior Secondary School (Namchi District)
5. Phodong Senior Secondary School (Mangan District)
6. Bariakhop Senior Secondary School (Soreng District)
The final competition, to be conducted by seasoned quiz masters Mr Diwakar Basnet and Mr Deepak Tamang, promises to be both high-spirited and intellectually engaging, as students will field questions not only on general knowledge but also on Sikkim’s culture, heritage, and statehood journey over the past 50 years.
The final event will also feature a showcase of innovative initiatives such as the Sikkim Odyssey AR mobile quiz game and the KUZU Challenge, both of which aim to engage youth through technology, exploration, and experiential learning.
The Time Capsule 2025 presentation, another major highlight of the programme, will offer participants a glimpse into the symbolic archiving of today’s voices and creativity for the future.
The Sikkim@50 Quiz Finals will be graced by the Minister for Education, Sports & Youth Affairs, Law & Parliamentary Affairs, Mr Raju Basnet, along with dignitaries from the Government of Sikkim and will include prize distribution, showcase segments, and participation from students, entrepreneurs, and officials from across the state.
