“The name of the Academy would be ‘Tarundeep Rai Archery Academy, Sikkim’, and the cost of the academy would be included in the budget of the next financial year. The Department of sports has already been directed to start the initial and preliminary work of the academy in consultation with  Tarundeep Rai himself. By establishing the academy, the scope of the game will increase, and the Institute will give birth to many more Olympians in the future.” CM Tamang

The sports department on occasion of National Sports Day, August 29  awarded cash incentives to 23 sportspersons, including boxing coach Sandhya Gurung and Olympian Tarundeep Rai

Prem Singh Tamang, Chief Minister of Sikkim announced that  Archery Academy Sikkim in name of Tarundeep Rai will be established in the state.

Further, Archer Rai expressed his gratitude towards the state, he said, “Having an academy in my name is of personal happiness while the main objective of it lies in building up the skills and sharp them among the sport persons of the upcoming generations, I have been into sport of archery for 25 years now, and I always maintain my focus and aim in every major tournaments. As a professional archer, to handle the same, needs to have potential.

Archer Rai also expressed his disappointment over the government of the past, he said “Others can also win medals in the same way I have won in the past from various tournament internationally, in concern with the sports infrasture it has been played around so far, as mentioned by the Chief Minister on how Bhaichung Stadium was excavated for 10 years, which in fact reflects in career of sportsperson, The career of sportspersons was played around with in the past. 10 years of effort and its success can be a gold medal, just as won by our Neeraj Chopra.”

“ If the Bhaichung Stadium was constructed on time, imagine how many footballers we would have generated rather they would have excelled with their own potential without any recommendations being needed. Despite pandemic being a challenge the stadium was completed within 2 years, the same stadium in the past couldn’t be completed in 10 years of time. Now I believe that this a new birth in sports of Sikkim and I personally am hopeful that from now onwards the sports sector in Sikkim  will grow” he added

Archer Rai also stated that talents are in rural areas of Sikkim, In regard he said “ In Sikkim most of the talented sportsperson lives in rural areas and focus should be on that particular sector and with the Government and Sports Department focusing on club culture it’s a platform for them to stand and take the spotlight”
