The Chairperson of the Sikkim State Commission for Women, Smt. Tan Doma Bhutia, along with the Member Secretary, attended the Shakti Samvad program, a two-day capacity-building and training initiative organized by the National Commission for Women (NCW) in collaboration with the Maharashtra State Women Commission. The program took place from August 22nd to 23rd, 2023, in Mumbai.
The inaugural session was graced by the Honorable Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Gangadharrao Fadnavis, along with Smt. Aditi Varda Sunil Tatkare, Honorable Minister for Women & Child Development; Smt. Vijaya K. Rahatkar, Honorable Chairperson of the NCW; and Smt. Rupali Chakankar, Chairperson of the Maharashtra Women Commission.
The program brought together representatives from all State Women Commissions across the country, providing a platform for knowledge sharing and collaboration. The two-day program featured innovative initiatives by the NCW, including Pre-Marital Communication Centers and the MENO-MIND program, which focuses on mental health during menopause.
The program included thought-provoking sessions on diverse themes, such as reviewing women-centric schemes, combating human trafficking, and the legal age of consent. Other sessions explored the concept of “Inner Women,” Artificial Intelligence and cyber security, and the contributions of women framers of the Indian Constitution.
Deliberations also took place on menopause and mental wellbeing, the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita from a women’s perspective, and the theme “Care Matters: Unpaid Work, Women’s Lives and State Responsibility.”
The Shakti Samvad program emerged as a significant platform for dialogue and collaboration, reaffirming the collective resolve of NCW and State Women Commissions to safeguard women’s rights and promote gender equality across the nation.
Notable attendees included Smt. Rashmi Sukla, DGP of Maharashtra; Shri Ved Prakash, Railways Divisional Manager; Dr. Girish Lad, Rising India Research Foundation; Dr. Neelam Gorhe, Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Council of Maharashtra and Advocate Monika Arora , Supreme Court of India.
The valedictory program concluded with a keynote address by Honorable MP Shri Sunil Tatkare.
