Sikkim INSPIRES: Career counselling programme held for children at child care institution Rhenock

The Skill Development Department, Government of Sikkim, in collaboration with the District Child Protection Unit, Pakyong, Women, Child, Senior Citizen & Divyangjan Welfare Department organised a Career Counselling Programme for children at the Child Care Institution, Kingston Rhenock under the Sikkim INSPIRES program through Niyukti Kendra on August 22, 2025. This kind of a collaborative program has been organised for the first time.

The programme was led by Mrs. Sushma Pradhan, Joint Secretary-cum-CEO, Niyukti Kendra, Directorate of Capacity Building, Skill Development Department, accompanied by Mrs. Pramila Chettri, Coordinator, and Mrs. Choden Bhutia, Coordinator.

The session commenced with a traditional welcome and offering of khada, followed by an introductory address on the initiatives of the Skill Development Department.
The objective of the programme was to provide children with valuable insights into skill development initiatives, career opportunities, and future planning. Special focus was given to empowering young adults with the knowledge and confidence required to make informed career decisions, as well as preparing them for a smooth transition to aftercare and independent living.

As part of the session, children participated in aptitude and personality assessments designed to help them understand their strengths, interests, and potential career paths. The interactive activities encouraged self-awareness, skill exploration, and goal setting.

The programme also highlighted opportunities in Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), with emphasis on the upcoming admissions at the four Government ITIs in Sikkim.

The certificates of meritorious in academic excellence were also distributed to the children by officials of Skill Development Department and District Child Protection Unit,Pakyong, Women, Child, Senior Citizen & Divyangjan Welfare Department.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from the children, who raised relevant questions and showed keen interest in exploring career opportunities across various sectors. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Eric Lepcha, Counsellor, Child Care Institution, Kingston Rhenock.
