Sikkim delegation participates in All India Speakers’ Meet at Delhi vidhan sabha

New Delhi, August 24, 2025: Hon’ble Speaker, Sikkim Legislative Assembly Shri Mingma Norbu Sherpa , Hon’ble Deputy Speaker, Sikkim Legislative Assembly, Smt. Raj Kumari Thapa , Secretary, Sikkim Legislative Assembly , Shri Lalit Kumar Gurung and officers of Sikkim Legislative Assembly attended the inaugural function of the Conference Of All India Speaker’s & Deputy Speaker’s To Commemorate The Centenary Of Shri Vithalbhai Jhaverbhai Patel’s Assumption Of Charge as First Indian Elected Speaker at Delhi Vidhan Sabha.

The conference was inaugurated by
Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah. Floral Tributes at the Statue of Shri Vithalbhai Jhaverbhai Patel in Assembly premises, Inauguration & viewing of Exhibition was also part of the inaugural function. Hon’ble Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Shri Kiren Rijiju. Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, Delhi Shri V K Saxena, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Delhi Smt. Rekha Gupta, Hon’ble Ministers of Delhi Government, Members of Delhi Legislative Assembly and Speakers / Chairperson and Deputy Speakers / Deputy Chairperson from all over the States were present in the conference.

The second half of the conference witnessed participation of Delegates from different States in the following topics:

  1. Role of Nationalists Leaders of the Pre Independence Central Legislatures in Freedom Movement and Social Reforms. Hon’ble Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat was the keynote speaker for this topic.
  2. India – “Mother of Democracy” . Hon’ble Dy. Chairman, Rajya Sabha, Shri Harivansh was the keynote speaker for this topic.

Later in the evening, the delegates attended a briefing meeting for participation of 68th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference to be held at Bridgetown, Barbados from 6th to 12th October, 2025. The meeting was held at conference hall of Lok Sabha Secretariat which was presided by Hon’ble Speaker Lok Sabha, Shri Om Birla. The meeting was followed by a Cultural Program and Dinner hosted by Hon’ble Speaker, Lok Sabha.
