President of the Sikkim Cricket Association (SCA), Mr Tika Subba, has lauded the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for its landmark decision to substantially increase match fees for women’s domestic cricketers, calling it a progressive and transformative step for Indian cricket.
In a statement issued from the President’s Desk, Mr Subba congratulated the BCCI for the decision taken during its Apex Council meeting on December 22, noting that the move significantly addresses long-standing gender disparities and strengthens the domestic structure of women’s cricket in the country.
Under the revised pay structure, senior women cricketers selected in the playing XI for domestic competitions will now receive ₹50,000 per day, while reserve players will earn ₹25,000 per day—more than double the earlier rates of ₹20,000 and ₹10,000 respectively. For T20 matches, playing XI members will be paid ₹25,000 per match and reserves ₹12,500. Similar pay enhancements have also been extended to age-group categories.
Mr Subba observed that the revised match fees not only recognise the dedication and talent of women cricketers but also bring domestic women’s pay nearly on par with their male counterparts.
“As the President of the Sikkim Cricket Association, I wholeheartedly welcome this initiative. It will inspire aspiring women cricketers across the nation, including young talent in Sikkim, to pursue the sport with renewed confidence, knowing that their efforts will be justly rewarded,” he stated.
He further noted that such reforms would broaden the talent pipeline, raise competitive standards, and contribute meaningfully to the long-term growth of Indian women’s cricket. The SCA President also acknowledged the BCCI’s parallel efforts to enhance match fees for junior women players and match officials, strengthening the domestic cricket ecosystem.
On behalf of the Sikkim Cricket Association, Mr Subba extended his best wishes to the BCCI and players alike and urged all stakeholders to continue working towards a more inclusive and vibrant future for cricket in India.
