Prime Minister Narendra Modi lands in Calgary, Canada, today for the 51st G7 Summit, marking his first visit to the country in nearly a decade. Modi was welcomed by Indian and Canadian officials, as well as representatives of Canada’s First Nations, before heading to Kananaskis, Alberta, where the summit is being held.
During this visit, PM Modi is expected to meet several world leaders and participate in discussions on key global challenges, including energy security, emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, and quantum innovation..
In a statement posted on X, Modi emphasized his intention to highlight the priorities of the Global South and share India’s perspectives on important international issues.
The summit comes amid efforts to reset strained India-Canada relations following diplomatic tensions in recent years. Both countries are working to “ring-fence” bilateral ties from past disputes, with early signs of improvement under Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. Modi and Carney are expected to hold a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the summit
