Pakyong, December 24:
A resident of Mamring in Pakyong district was duped of ₹19,250 in an online investment scam after clicking on a misleading stock market advertisement on Instagram.

According to the complaint, the victim, Mr. Dhiraj Kumar, son of Ashok Kumar, came across a stock market-related advertisement on Instagram on December 24, 2025. After clicking the link, he was redirected to WhatsApp, where he began interacting with an unidentified individual using mobile number 6367285058.

The fraudster allegedly claimed that stock market profits were rising rapidly and convinced the complainant to invest money by assuring high returns. Mr. Kumar was told that an investment of ₹19,250 would generate a profit of ₹57,820. Trusting the promise, he transferred the amount.

Later, the scammer shared a fabricated screenshot showing the alleged profit and demanded an additional ₹18,000 as GST to release the funds. At this stage, the complainant realised that he had fallen victim to a cyber fraud.

The total financial loss reported is ₹19,250. A complaint has been registered on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) with acknowledgement number 3281225000538. The complainant has been advised to visit Rangpo Police Station for further necessary action.

Police have once again cautioned the public against falling for online investment offers and urged people to avoid clicking on suspicious advertisements on social media platforms.
