New Delhi, January 9, 2026:
Indra Hang Subba, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from Sikkim, today met Harsh Malhotra, Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, and extended New Year greetings during the courtesy call.
During the meeting, the MP held detailed discussions on various National Highway projects being executed by the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) in Sikkim. The deliberations focused on the progress of ongoing works, key challenges affecting execution, and strategies to ensure timely and effective implementation of these critical infrastructure projects.
Shri Subba specifically drew the Minister’s attention to the slow pace of construction on National Highway–510, particularly Packages V and VI in Gyalshing district. He underscored that these packages represent the first-ever National Highway in Gyalshing district, marking a historic milestone nearly five decades after Sikkim became a State of the Indian Union. Emphasising the strategic and developmental importance of the project, he noted that the completion of NH-510 would significantly enhance regional connectivity, facilitate economic growth, and greatly improve public convenience in the district.
Highlighting the hardships faced by local residents due to delays, the MP requested the personal intervention of the Hon’ble Minister to resolve existing bottlenecks and expedite the completion of the project. He stressed that timely execution is vital for unlocking the district’s development potential and ensuring safer and more reliable road connectivity.
Responding to the concerns, Harsh Malhotra assured that the issues raised would be given due consideration. He reiterated the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways’ commitment to strengthening road infrastructure in Sikkim and other Himalayan regions, acknowledging the unique geographical challenges involved and the importance of robust connectivity for inclusive development.
