The 34th Nepali Bhasha Diwas, 2025 was celebrated at auditorium hall of SL Dow Gyatso Kazi Senior Secondary School, Mangalbaria organised by the Sphuran Sahitya Prakashan (Mangalbaria) and Nepali Language Recognition Day Celebration Committee 2025, (Mangalbaria). The Chief Minister of Sikkim Mr Prem Singh Tamang graced the event as a Chief Guest and Dr Gokul Sinha, as a special guest.
Chief Minister of Sikkim, Mr Prem Singh Tamang, in his address on the Nepali Language Recognition Day Celebration 2025, extended his congratulations to the organising committee for successfully hosting the programme.

The Chief Minister on the occasion emphasised that preserving a language is equivalent to preserving humankind itself, underlining the significance of cultural and linguistic heritage. He briefly recalled the historic journey of the recognition of the Nepali language in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution and stressed the need to promote Nepali and other regional languages through modern digital platforms. He further informed that the State Government is actively pursuing the inclusion of Lepcha, Bhutia, and Limboo languages in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution.
Making a significant announcement, the Chief Minister declared that on 20th August 2026, the State Government will felicitate Late Mr Nar Bahadur Bhandari (Former Chief Minister) and Mrs Dil Kumari Bhandari (Former Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha) for their immense contributions to the recognition of the Nepali language.
Addressing the proposals submitted by the organising committee, he assured full support from the Government. He also announced that the remaining 990 beneficiaries from every constituency will be provided assistance under the Aama Shashaktikaran Yojana on 17th September 2025, to mark the birthday of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Mr Narendra Modi, in every constituency of the State.
The Chief Minister also declared that from 2026 onwards, Bhasa Diwas will be celebrated at the District Level, ensuring wider participation and recognition of linguistic diversity across Sikkim.
Special Guest Dr Gokul Sinha in his address to the gathering, highlighted the formation of the Bharatiya Nepali Rashtriya Parisad, under the leadership of its President, Late Mr Nar Bahadur Bhandari. He acknowledged and appreciated the significant contribution of the people of Sikkim in the historic recognition of the Nepali language in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
Dr Sinha also commended the role of Sikkim University in encouraging young students to learn and preserve regional languages, thereby strengthening the cultural and linguistic diversity of the State.
ADC-II (Soreng) cum President of the Nepali Language Recognition Day Celebration Committee 2025,(Mangalbaria) Mr Santosh Kr Allay, during the programme recited his poem titled “Mangalmai Mangalbarey.” In his address, he briefly shared the history of the special guest, Dr Gokul Sinha, and expressed his appreciation for his gracious presence at the event.
He also highlighted the history and establishment of Sphuran Sahitya Prakashan (Mangalbaria) and elaborated on its various portfolios. Further, he recalled the revolutionary efforts made by the literary fraternity and other dignitaries in the movement for Nepali Language Recognition.
On the occasion, the organising committee placed a few proposals before the Chief Minister of Sikkim, Mr Prem Singh Tamang which was duly acknowledged by the Chief Minister and stated that possible assistance would be provided with utmost importance towards the submitted proposals.
The event also had a Felicitation to the Chief Guest by the organising committee with flowers and traditional ornaments and Presentation of Felicitation Letter to the Chief Guest.
During the programme, presentation of “Certificates of Appreciation” to Student Toppers in Various Languages were also handed out by the chief guest to the following students namely:

- Ms Chodenla Sherpa
- Ms Chunu Lepcha.
Presentation of “Certificates of Felicitation” for their dedication towards their respective field of work were also given by the organising committee to namely:

- Ms Gyurmi Dolma Tamang (Footballer)
- Mr Manoj Mukhia (Educator)
- Mrs Bhimit Lepcha (Educator)
- Mr Phetu Tshering Bhutia, (Social Activist)
The Chief Minister’s Discretionary Grants were distributed to:
Sanjeevani Sahitya Maanch (Gelling- Samsing)
Middle Gelling Nava Jyoti Gram Sudhar Sangh.
The programme also had a quiz competition where KB Limboo Senior Secondary School, Sribadam emerged victorious. Later the chief guest handed out the Prizes and Certificates to the winners. Further, Poetry Recitation by the winners from various languages that is in Manger, Gurung, Tamang, Rai, Limbu, Lepcha, Bhutia, and Nepali languages was also conducted.
The event was also attended by MLAs, Vice Chairperson (ITS), Advisors, Chairpersons, Zilla Adakshya, Upa-Adakshya, Former MLAs, Secretaries, IGP (Law and Order), APS Soreng, OSDs, DC Soreng, SP Soreng, ADCs, ADC (Development), SDMs, HODs and Officials from various line departments.
