Dentam, West Sikkim, Jan 23: A murder case has been reported from Dentam Tar in West Sikkim, prompting swift action by the police. A 27-year-old man, identified as Rajiv Mandal, was allegedly murdered on Friday evening.
According to Superintendent of Police, West Sikkim, Mr Tshering Sherpa, the deceased has been identified as Rajiv Mandal (27), a resident of Raiganj in West Bengal. He was working as a contractor at the time of the incident.
Following receipt of information about the crime, police immediately mobilised a team to trace the accused. As per police sources, the suspects had reserved a vehicle from Geyzing and attempted to flee from Dentam after the incident. Acting on specific inputs, the police intercepted the vehicle at Legship and arrested four persons, including one juvenile.
The arrested accused have been identified as Suman Mandal, one juvenile, Bobey Adhikari (20), and Pran Gopal Mondal (42). All the accused are residents of West Bengal. The identity of the fourth accused has been confirmed by police, while the juvenile has been detained in accordance with the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act.
All the accused are currently in police custody, and further investigation is underway to determine the motive and exact circumstances surrounding the crime.
