Forest Minister inaugurates bridge linking Laven–Lingzya

Minister for Forest & Environment, Science & Technology and Mines & Geology cum MLA Dzongu Constituency Mr Pintso Namgyal Lepcha formally opened a 400 feet Bailey Suspension Bridge load class (18R) connecting Laven to Lingzya across Kanaka River in Upper Dzongu today. The new bridge will ensure vital connectivity from Lingzya to Tingvong GPU and Sakyong Pentong GPU, in Upper Dzongu under Mangan District.

Earlier in the day, Minister cum Area MLA Mr Pintso Namgyal Lepcha formally announced the commencement of the construction of the much awaited 255 meters long Kayum Arch Steel Bridge situated in Upper Dzongu. The resumption of the incomplete bridge was a long pending demand of the people of Dzongu to ensure access to the remote areas of Upper Dzongu. The Minister said that the resumption of the construction was possible with the intervention of the State Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang. He thanked the Chief Minister for sanctioning vital connectivity projects for Dzongu constituency, thereby addressing the basic challenges faced by the people over the years. The Minister added that the bridge is slated to be competed latest by March 2027. Further, he informed that the sanctioned works like carpeting and black topping of roads under Lower and Upper Dzongu will be carried out simultaneously and completed within the stipulated time. He urged the construction company and the officers and engineers of the works department to ensure timely completion of the works in the interest of the people of Dzongu.

The Minister was accompanied by Upadakshya Ms Sonam Kipa Bhutia, Chairperson Ms Ongkit Lepcha, Zilla and Gram Panchayat Members, SDM Dzongu, BDO Dzongu, OSD’s, officials from BAC Passingdang, Assistant Engineer, JE, Roads & Bridges, Contractor, dignitaries and local public.
