DLSA, Gangtok under Sikkim SLSA organise awareness program in observation of Constitution Day/Week

The District Legal Services Authority, (DLSA) Gangtok under the directions of Sikkim SLSA, organised a Legal Awareness Program in observance of Constitution Day/Week (November 26 to December 2, 2022).

            A two-day awareness program was held on 30.08.2022 at Sikkim Government Law College, Burtuk. The said programme was attended by the Dr. Dilip Pandey, Dean, Law College, Burtuk, along with the faculty members of the Department. Advocate. Mr. Pramit Chettri attended the program as Resource Person and enlighten the students on rights and duties as enshrined in the Constitution of India.

On the other hand on 01.12.2022, the program was held in ICFAI, University, Gangtok in presence of law faculties and members from DLSA.

The Resource Person, Pramit Chettri briefed the gathering on the importance of Fundamental Duties as envisaged in Article 51A of the Constitution of India. He spoke on the principles of Article 51A of the Constitution, its ideals and institutions, its implication and role of the public.

            He further deliberated on the functions of NALSA, free Legal Aid, obstacles faced during legal aid processes, role of Para Legals, role of Panel Advocates, obligation of every citizen to promote patriotism.

             Information regarding Domestic Violence Act, 2005, Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act, 2012, Free Legal Aid Services, Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007 were also disseminated to the gathering.

            The program concluded with an interactive session held between the resource person and students.
