Final Countdown to Maghey Sankranti 2026: Chief Minister Reviews Last-Minute Arrangements
Namchi, Dec 29 (IPR): In the run-up to the much-awaited Maghey Sankranti Mela, 2026, the Chief Minister of Sikkim, Mr Prem Singh Tamang, today chaired the final coordination meeting at the Conference Hall of SIRD & PR, Karfectar.
The meeting was attended by Heads of Departments, representatives of line departments and members of the organising committee to review last-minute preparations for the grand celebration.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by MLA Salghari-Zoom and Chief Patron of the Maghey Sankranti Mela, Mr Madan Cintury, Political Secretary to the Chief Minister Mr Jacob Khaling, President (NJNP) Mr Pabitra Manav, Vice President (NJNP), along with Advisors and Chairpersons.

On arrival, the Chief Minister was accorded a Guard of Honour by the 2nd Indian Reserve Battalion, Pipalay. Thereafter, he proceeded to the meeting, where he was briefed on key strategies and initiatives being implemented to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the festival. Departmental Heads and representatives apprised him of their respective roles and preparedness.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister emphasised the need to promote Maghey Sankranti Mela as a flagship festival of Sikkim, with visibility on state, national and international platforms. He urged all departments and stakeholders to work in close coordination to ensure the event’s success.
He further encouraged local traders and entrepreneurs to make the most of the opportunities generated by the festival to strengthen their businesses, while stressing the importance of maintaining a balanced and disciplined work structure among all involved.
The 71st edition of the Maghey Sankranti Mela will be held from 14 January to 22 January 2026, spanning the twin locations of Jorethang and Nayabazar, with a strong focus on showcasing the State’s rich cultural and traditional heritage.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister unveiled and launched the official media website, official logo, brochure, table tent and the fixture for the All India Chief Minister’s Gold Cup Football Tournament.
The festival will feature Sandhya Aarati throughout all nine days, along with a vibrant line-up of evening musical events featuring renowned artistes such as Shaan, Ashish Rana (Laure), Tribal Rain, 1974 AD, alongside prominent local talents.
Signature attractions including Golden Feet of Sikkim, Golden Beat of Sikkim, Golden Voice of Sikkim, cultural and sports events, Creative Hub 2.0 by IPR, Traditional Showcase, inter-constituency football matches, rural sports and marathons will further add to the festivities.
The meeting was attended by Panchayat members, Secretary (IPR) Ms Annapurna Alley, DC Soreng Mr Dhiraj Subedi, Senior Superintendents of Police of Namchi and Soreng, Press Secretary to the Chief Minister Mr Yougan Tamang, Additional Political Secretary (Namchi) Mr Bishnu Sharma, ADC Namchi Ms Tirsang Tamang, SDM Jorethang Mr Yogen Syangden, OSDs, Heads of Departments and Offices, officials from line departments, and members of the local gentry.
